Beach Camping

It's been a few weeks since we sent out a weekend update, but this weekend we took a fun trip camping. This was our last camping adventure of the season as the weather is getting colder and the camping season ends in October. The girls picked me up from work on Friday and we drove over the Santa Cruz mountains down to Santa Cruz. We stayed at New Brighton State Beach, where there are about 80 camping spots just up the hill from a beautiful beach.

We got the tent set up before dark and cooked some hot dogs and s'mores on the fire. The girls got to bed around 9pm and managed to stay asleep (except for a 4:30am stint by Ruthie) despite neighbors who showed up around 10:00pm with very bright headlights shining in our tent.

The next morning we got up around 8am and after breakfast went for a long walk on the beach. Around 11am we went and broke down our camp and spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach with the girls. They had a great time getting chased by the waves and only had 1 mishap with a wave being a little stronger than Ruthie was. The rest of the time was spent building sand castles. We got back Saturday night with just enough time for Alison to get ready for and attend RS general conf at the Stake Center.
